Sonoran Desert Botanical Garden
Tohono Chul Park is a botanical garden, gallery space, and bistro in Tucson, AZ. The park has nature trails that you can walk self-guided. There are three trails: the Saguaro Discovery Trail, the South Loop Trail, and the Desert View Trail. My personal favorite is the Desert View trail which is further away from the central part of the park. Along the path, you will find stones carved with inspirational quotes. It is the perfect place to take a relaxing walk or meditate. One of my favorite quotes adorning this route is:
Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.
~ Albert Einstein
Public tours of the park are free if you prefer this to a self-guided experience. Tours focus on a variety of subjects from butterflies, to birds, wildflowers, reptiles, and ecology of the park. For a list of tour days and times, you can visit the Tohono Chul Park website. Additionally, the park hosts a plethora of events such as yoga offerings, stories in the park, plant sales, and even pollinator parties.
After walking through the park, I like to browse through whatever art exhibits they have on display and look in the gift shop as well as the greenhouse. Although I haven’t had the pleasure of dining there, Tohono Chul also features a bistro with breakfast, lunch, and brunch offerings. There is also a cocktail menu if you’re in the mood.
Mother’s Day in Tucson, AZ
I surprised my mother and took her to this park for Mother’s Day last year. Personally, I think living flowers are better than fresh cut flowers and there are sure to be many in bloom at this time of year. With Mother’s Day coming up just next weekend, I highly recommend it. You can even let her pick out a succulent at the greenhouse as a gift that I’m sure she will remember for a long time.
